Job Description: - Prepare permits and gather data related to mining, including Title V Air Permits, Industrial Wastewater Permits (NPDES), and Stormwater Permits.
- Build strong relationships with plant staff to support environmental compliance and special projects related to air quality, wastewater, stormwater management, greenhouse gas emissions, and environmental audits.
- Respond to emergency situations, including spills and accidental discharges, coordinating with emergency, fire, and spill response teams (on-call responsibilities required).
- Collaborate with various departments to align future production plans with environmental requirements.
- Collect and maintain required data and records for air emission inventories, discharge monitoring reports (DMR), and waste management.
- Establish schedules and methods for delivering environmental compliance and regulatory services.
- Conduct new hire orientation training on environmental requirements and update annual refresher training as necessary.
- Lead the company's Environmental Education Program and foster community involvement through the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) outdoor classroom.
- Lead and maintain certifications, including ISCC, ISO 14001, South Carolina Environmental Excellence Program (EEP), Wildlife and Industry Together (W.A.I.T.), and 100% Zero Waste to Landfill.
- Manage on-site contractors responsible for waste and recycling, zero waste to landfill initiatives, waste oil collection, janitorial services, and process cleaning.
Salary Range for this role is $110K to $117K depending on experience & qualifications.
Non-Negotiable Requirements: - Minimum of 8 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree, or 6 years with a master's degree, or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
- Strong understanding of plant processes and waste streams, with the ability to devise safe and cost-effective methods for waste collection, recycling, transportation, and disposal of solid and hazardous waste.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable environmental regulations, including air (Title V), waste (RCRA), and water (SPCC & SWPPP) standards.
Nice-to-Have Skills: - Experience with ISO 14001 certifications.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to influence individuals or groups without direct authority to achieve goals and meet timelines.
Position within the Organization: This role reports to the Plant Engineer, with all engineering functions under the purview of this manager.
