Before all else, think of yourself as a subject matter expert. You’ll be overseeing a team of account execs and account managers, with full-on responsibility for handling budgets and allocating resources.

You’ve put in even more time in a client-services capacity, so you’ve got all the polish and red-carpet mentality that entails. You’ve managed accounts, led teams, and have spearheaded successful strategies soup-to-nuts.

You’ve got a nice easy way about you, an ability to build rapport quickly. You lead by example, and people who work for you are always infected by your enthusiasm, which inspires them to deliver their best. And you take a whole-business approach to your work, not viewing your contribution as specific to an individual account but rather as part of the entire company’s success story.
